The Fear of Fear is the latest release from the band Spiritbox, and I have to admit, it’s not quite as intimidating as I anticipated. However, don’t let that deter you from diving into these meticulously crafted tracks. The EP's standout feature is undoubtedly the vocals, which serve as the driving force behind every song. Whether it’s harsh, guttural screaming or softer, more melodic ballad-like singing, the vocal performance is exceptional. The vocalist’s talents are fully realized here, with every song built around her voice. The band knows exactly when to pull back on the guitars and drums to allow her vocals to shine, creating a perfect balance in the mix.

The guitars are heavy, chugging along with a satisfying intensity, but there are moments when they seem to overpower the drums, leaving the percussion a bit submerged. While the drumming is solid, it occasionally fades into the background due to the overpowering presence of the guitars. Another element that seemed to fade into the mix, at least for me, was the bass. It felt like it was either overshadowed by the guitars or perhaps I simply didn’t notice it as much. Either way, the lack of noticeable bass left me wondering if it was buried or if it was intentionally kept subtle in the mix.

On a positive note, the pacing, flow, and transitions between tracks on The Fear of Fear are flawless. The EP moves smoothly from one song to the next, keeping the listener engaged throughout. The attention to detail in the arrangement is apparent, and the overall structure of the album feels well thought out.

However, there’s one significant flaw that stood out to me: none of the tracks truly grabbed me or felt memorable. While all the songs are well-crafted and solid, there wasn’t a single moment where I felt completely blown away. Everything is good, but it lacks that one standout track that leaves a lasting impression. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but it does leave the EP feeling somewhat underwhelming in its overall impact.

In conclusion, The Fear of Fear is a strong release from Spiritbox, with exceptional vocal work, solid instrumentation, and perfect pacing. While it may not have a song that wows you, it’s still a highly enjoyable listen for those who appreciate well-crafted, heavy music.
