The new EP from Realms of Death unfortunately feels a bit like fluff. While it has its moments, the overall experience is filled with lackluster riffs, basic drum patterns, and repetitive vocal styles and lyrics that fail to grab attention. This might sound harsh, but as I listened to the EP, I couldn't shake the feeling that none of the songs offered a real sense of urgency or excitement. The song structures feel overly simplistic, and as a result, I found myself losing interest. It’s like the tracks are missing that special spark—the kind of edge that makes other bands stand out and truly capture the listener's attention.
I hate to say it, but it feels like a local band simply going through the motions. There’s potential, but it’s buried under predictable structures and uninspired progressions. The band needs to step up their game in this department next time because, frankly, the songs here just don’t grab you the way they should. There are a few moments of variation, such as in Illusions of the Throne, where they show some signs of life and creativity, but these are few and far between.
That said, it’s not all bad. The production quality here is impressive. The sound is clear and crisp, and the band is well balanced in the mix. The vocals are layered effectively over the instruments, with nice depth and separation, making it easy to pick out each element. The string sections and percussion fit together seamlessly, adding a touch of richness to the overall sound. While this EP may not be their strongest effort, the production shows that they’re capable of making something sonically pleasing—now they just need to work on delivering more engaging songs next time.
