Like a hyeena looking for scrapes, there are some good bits here and there on this record, but mostly you will leave still hungry. From one of the most prominent metalcore frontmen, Keith Holluk, comes his new band, Hyeena. Their debut LP left me a bit confused because their debut EP had a different sound. I know I shouldn't have expectations. but I thought this album would be more in line with that punk sound they had. This album is a straight-up metalcore album. The guitars are riffy and fun for the most part, but nothing too special. the bass though! Oh, they let the bass just fly high, and it is used excellently. The drums are fun and interesting when you can hear them. At times it seems the drums drop out a bit. The last thing I want to touch on is the vocals. From the beginning of the album, he sounds good and alright. but then we go deeper into this washed-out fish bowl-sounding vocals. At times it sounds cool, but it seems to be overused here. Keith's vocals alone are amazing. I think he can carry a lot of these songs without this odd effect of his voice. I think the use of this effect did more harm than good for the overall feel of the album.
