Forced out of existence, but its a grand exodus from this trans death metal band called Greenwitch. This Californian band is bringing you some groovy ass songs that will cave your skull in with how dense and heavy their songs are. Mixing elements of death metal, black metal, and groove metal to give you one fun headbanging experience. Off the bat, I have to give it up to the bass playing on this record; it's so deep, groovy, and dense, like on the songs “The Cyberneticist” and “Grotto of Obscene Sensation,” that you can't help but make the grumpy cat face the whole time you are listening. It’s disgustingly heavy and fits so well with this band’s style. The guitars are menacing and heavy like the bass and have a huge sound to them. However, I might have to say the most interesting part about the guitars is when they do this soloing/wailing with their guitar. They do this super high-pitched guitar wail, and damn, it sounded like a horse neighing. On “Grotto of Obscene Sensation” and “Spewin Fluids,” they execute these crazy wails that are just unreal and super impressive. The guitarists are doing a good job of making the band sound interesting. The drums are playing hard and fast, especially with how they utilize the double kicks with the kick drums. Like on the tracks “Forced Out of Existence” or “Body Bound,” the drums are just pummeling with their double kicks or impressive drum fills. On “Rot alone," the drums were a bit basic, but they added some flair by switching up their pattern and fills to make it more memorable. The drummer is putting in work to keep our attention, so mad respect to them. The vocals sound deep and heavy with how low they can go by doing some deep guttural vocals or pig squealing. I will say at times, like on “Spewin Fluids,” the vocals have some echoey/reverb effects added to them, and it makes it hard to understand them. Now, ok, the pacing and flow of this album. It's a strong death metal album at the start, but by the end, it feels like it falls into a slump of generic death metal. They had great momentum at the start of the album, but by the end they have some basic riffs or heavy parts; the songs just don’t seem so memorable, like on "Severed." The 4-minute static interlude before the song kicks in is trying to create an atmosphere but just really leaves you bored and uninterested. When the song kicks in, it just sounds like any of their other songs, so it's really not the best payoff. I was looking after such a long intro. Great start, decent middle, and just and okay ending is the way this debut from Greenwitch has come. Their will be more from this interesting trans death metal band, excited to see what they will transform into the future.
