Fall Semester - Self-Titled Review

The crew this fall semester might want to consider sticking around for another term to refine and polish certain aspects of this EP. The combination of emo/indie music with screamo vocals is a unique and bold approach, and I definitely give props to the boys for attempting something outside the box. It’s a creative concept with a lot of potential, but it’s clear that there’s still room for growth, particularly in the vocal performance and production.

First and foremost, the mixing of the vocals needs a serious overhaul. There are moments when you can barely hear them, such as at the start of “luvbug,” and other times when they’re overwhelming and unintelligible. Whether this is a stylistic choice or a production issue, it’s clear that the balance between the vocals and the music needs to be addressed. In some sections, the vocals just feel lost in the mix, and in others, they dominate too much. A more consistent and thoughtful approach to mixing would make a huge difference. The vocals themselves also need some attention. The screaming, in particular, seems to clash with the overall tone of the music at times. While the idea of layering harsh vocals over indie/emo instrumentation is intriguing, the volume balance and vocal technique need refining. The current screaming style feels a bit out of place, and I think the vocalist would benefit from experimenting with different vocal approaches to match the mood and texture of the music more effectively. There’s definitely room for improvement here, and it would be exciting to hear how these elements evolve in future releases.

That said, the music itself is definitely solid and shows promise. The guitars, drums, and bass are all well-balanced in terms of production, and they create a cohesive, tight sound that supports the overall vibe of the EP. The instrumentation flows well with the emotional highs and lows that the band seems to be aiming for. The rhythm section is particularly strong, and the bass grooves complement the melodic lines in a way that feels natural and engaging. The song structures are also worth noting—they have a good flow, with some interesting dynamics and transitions that keep the listener engaged. Each track feels like it has its own identity, but they still work well together as a cohesive whole.

In summary, there’s clear potential here. While some aspects, particularly the vocals and mixing, need work, the overall direction shows promise. I can see this EP as a stepping stone for the band, a foundation they can build on as they continue to refine their sound and hone their craft. With some adjustments, I think they have the potential to create something really special in the future.
