Creepy Nuts’ Legion is a fascinating mix of hypnotic basslines, unconventional vocal choices, and clean production, offering a unique blend of rap, electronic, and traditional Japanese influences. The album thrives when it leans into simplicity, using deep, rumbling bass and crisp production to create a mesmerizing atmosphere. Songs like “中學 22 年生” and “二度寢” exemplify this with their stripped-down yet captivating beats, allowing the vocals to take center stage.

On the more energetic side, tracks like “Doppelganger” and “ちゅだい” push the pace with rapid-fire delivery and layered instrumentals. These moments bring an almost chaotic energy but remain structured enough to feel intentional rather than overwhelming. The use of contrasting vocal styles, from muffled and strained to sharp and precise, helps keep things engaging across the album.
One of the standout aspects of Legion is its incorporation of traditional Japanese elements without feeling forced or gimmicky. “Japanese” does this particularly well, embracing a trap-inspired beat while weaving in cultural references and instrumentation. Similarly, “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” takes a minimalistic approach, relying on a stripped-down beat and unexpected instrument choices like xylophones to create a unique groove.

The album’s flow is also well-constructed, balancing softer moments with harder-hitting tracks. “Get Higher” brings an emotional weight, reminiscent of classic techno and video game soundtracks, standing in contrast to the menacing and tough “はらぺこあおむし”, which follows immediately after. These dynamic shifts keep the listening experience fresh. Not every track is flawless—songs like “オトノケ” can feel grating due to some questionable vocal choices, and “Legion” struggles with mismatched energy between the beat and performances. However, even these moments showcase the group’s willingness to experiment and push boundaries. Ultimately, Legion shines the most when it sticks to its strengths: deep, immersive beats, sharp and varied vocal deliveries, and a seamless fusion of modern and traditional influences. Creepy Nuts proves once again that they can create an album that is both unpredictable and undeniably catchy.

Creepy Nutsの『Legion』は、催眠術のようなベースライン、型破りなボーカルアプローチ、そしてクリーンなプロダクションが融合した魅力的な作品だ。ラップ、エレクトロニック、そして日本の伝統的な要素を独自のバランスで組み合わせている。シンプルさを活かした楽曲では特にその魅力が際立ち、深く響くベースとシャープなサウンドが没入感のある雰囲気を作り出している。「中學22年生」や「二度寢」などの楽曲は、装飾を抑えたビートが印象的で、ボーカルが主役として引き立つ仕上がりになっている。よりエネルギッシュな楽曲では、「Doppelganger」や「ちゅだい」が疾走感のあるフロウと重層的なインストゥルメンタルで勢いを加えている。これらの曲は混沌としたエネルギーを持ちながらも、しっかりとした構成によって過剰になりすぎず、計算されたインパクトを生み出している。こもった声や張り詰めたボーカルから、鋭く明瞭な歌い方まで、多様なボーカルスタイルの使い分けがアルバム全体を飽きさせない要素となっている。『Legion』の特筆すべき点の一つは、日本的な要素を不自然に感じさせることなく取り入れている点だ。「Japanese」ではトラップ的なビートを軸にしつつ、日本文化の要素を織り交ぜたサウンドを展開している。
