This psydelic indie band is laying down some impressive and catchy songs on their debut album that send you back in time when finger mustaches were all the rave and urban outfitters was the cool spot to find your next quirky item to show off to your friends. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, this rock band is here to make a name for themselves with their psychedelic-like riffs with tight drumming (coming from two drummers?!?) deep and rich bass palying, vibrant and energetic keys, and a vocalist who can put you in a trance with her mesmerizing words when heard. The vocals are one of the most impressive parts of this eclectic band. The vocalist is able to captivate you with the way she says her words, especially during the chorus. The lyrics are so simple and catchy that you will be able to easily sing along to every song by the end of your first listen. Songs like “Cig Race,Bloodsucker,” or “Detach” get stuck in your head, and before you know it, you want more. I will say at times the vocals get heavily drowned out by the large sound of the guitars and drums. Specially the songs I just named have that issue during the chorus sometimes where you get caught up in the catchy vocals if you can focus on listening to them since they are a bit buried. The lyrics seem to be a bit tongue in check, like tell a strory about getting caught stealing from Claires in “sticky fingers” or emotional songs about detaching from pain, like on "detach,” or dark and sad lyrics on “radar worms." The lyrics for the majority of the album feel well written and have a deep sense of emotion while being wrapped up in interesting metaphors. The only time the lyrics seemed to fall short is on the song “Gallop Ultra." This song is the most experimental song on the album because it has a variety of elements like psychedelic riffs with some weird synths in the background, an interesting bass and drum combo, and by the end the keys transform into some circus-like music. It’s different but doesn't land that well in the grand feel of the album. The other songs have a great feel from all the instruments. With the guitars, you get a mix of psychedelic and garage rock riffs that help create catchy songs like “gay breakfast” and "bloodsucker." Surprisingly, with the use of two drummers, you think the band would have a bigger, bolder song, but the drums feel very tight, controlled, and fun, like on “radar worms” and “cig race." The bass playing has a nice fuzzing and funky feel throughout the album and is subtle lower in the mix to give it a cool and mysterious feel. If you are feeling frisky and want to go down memory lane of that old hipster of the mid-2010s, you will have a blast with this album.
