Sunami - Debut Album Review: All Hype, No Misses

Damn. For a band as heavy as hell and hyped to the max, I had my doubts. Would Sunami be able to live up to the chaotic energy and brutality that made people fall in love with them? Or would they fall into the trap of being all bark and no bite? Turns out, I was dead wrong to doubt them—because this album absolutely rips.

Sunami didn’t just deliver—they amplified everything that makes them a force in hardcore. Heavier riffs, harder-hitting lyrics, snappier drums, and some of the crispiest production in modern hardcore. These boys were not playing games on this debut. They took the essence of their sound and cranked it up to violent levels, making every song feel like it’s swinging for your jaw.

The most mind-blowing thing on this record? The drums. Their drummer is part human, part machine, and part straight-up weapon because this dude is firing off like a fully automatic rifle. That snare drum is so sharp it could trigger military-grade PTSD with how precise and punishing it sounds. The fills, the blast beats, the raw aggression—this is some next-level hardcore drumming, and it never lets up.

The guitar work here isn’t just heavy—it’s surgical. The riffs know when to pull back and let the drums take the spotlight, but when it’s time to slice through the mix, this thing shreds like a katana. The tone is nasty, the chugs are violent, and the breakdowns? You might as well call your insurance company now because someone is getting hurt in the pit.

The bass does exactly what it needs to do—it adds weight, makes the riffs feel even filthier, and keeps everything locked into a groove that makes you want to punch through walls. It doesn’t just follow along—it drives the sound deeper into your chest, making every hit feel like a sledgehammer to the ribs.

And then there’s Joseph, who steps up to the mic like he’s got a personal vendetta against everything and everyone. The lyrics? Pure disrespect. The delivery? Zero hesitation, zero mercy, and zero chill. He spits pure venom, and every line feels like it’s being thrown straight in your face. Sunami has never held back in their approach to raw, confrontational hardcore, and this album proves that they are only getting nastier.

There are no weak moments on this album. No filler. No half-measures. Just pure, unfiltered, pit-demolishing hardcore. If you don’t fuck with Sunami, you’re simply a bitch.
