No Right - 2024 Promo Review

No Right delivers an impressive, tight, and undeniably dope sound on this short promo—something you wouldn’t expect from such a small release. This Bay Area straightedge band unleashes an untamed, raw energy that ensures there’s something here for everyone to enjoy. From the rage-filled, spitfire vocals to the whirlwind-speed riffs and drums with a bone-shaking punch, every second of this promo is packed with intensity and passion. It’s a brief ride, but one that’s absolutely worth taking.

The standout element here is the drums, which have a unique and fresh style that’s immediately captivating. The hollow, almost percussive sound they create, combined with the force behind each hit, makes the tracks hit like a sledgehammer. There’s a raw, gritty vibe to the drums that adds a sense of intensity to every song, giving the entire promo a distinct and heavy flavor. It’s a nasty taste in the best possible way—aggressive, impactful, and undeniably cool.

The riffs lean into a heavier, sludgier side at times, but for the most part, they’re thick, powerful, and perfectly suited for the band's style. They hold down the rhythm while adding layers of aggression, and you can feel the weight behind each note. The vocals are equally intense, packed with a layer of rage that pairs perfectly with the music’s ferocity. Backed by well-crafted lyrics, they come across as raw and genuine, creating an emotional punch that amplifies the band’s unrelenting energy.

That said, the vocals could benefit from being turned up in the mix. With their intense delivery and unique style, they have the potential to shine even brighter if they were more prominently featured alongside the other loud elements of the band. There's a certain grit in the vocal delivery that, if elevated, could elevate the entire experience.

The clean backing vocals provide an interesting change of pace and add some contrast to the otherwise abrasive sound. However, during the latter half of “Suffer,” where the clean vocals take center stage, the song takes a turn into hard rock/alt territory. While it’s an interesting choice, it feels a bit jarring and disrupts the song’s flow. The shift in tone doesn’t quite match the energy of the rest of the track, creating a moment that feels somewhat out of place.

The bass, like the drums, provides a lot of the weight in the slower, heavier sections and breakdowns, adding a satisfying depth to the sound. During the faster, more frantic parts, however, it seems to get a bit lost in the mix. The low-end power could have been more prominent, especially during the high-energy moments when it’s needed most.

Production-wise, the promo sounds crisp, heavy, and clean, with each element coming through clearly. The overall mix is solid, but there are a few moments where certain parts—particularly the vocals and bass—could be pushed higher in the volume department to let them fully complement the intensity of the other instruments. If the mix was tweaked just a little bit, this band would absolutely shine, delivering an even more devastating impact.

In the end, No Right proves they can pack an incredible amount of energy and aggression into a short amount of time. With a little more polish on the production and a few minor tweaks, this promo would be an unstoppable force, showcasing a band with tremendous potential and a sound that’s impossible to ignore.
