Nails is back, and with this new LP, they’re making sure that every bridge is set ablaze. The band delivers exactly what fans have come to expect—blistering, intense powerviolence that hits hard and fast. In just 17 minutes, they manage to craft a ferocious blend of crushing riffs, relentless blast beats, groovy yet brutal basslines, and the harshest, most aggressive vocals you've heard in a while. This is the Nails we know and love, but with an edge that might make even their most diehard fans pause and take notice.
Right out of the gate, the album feels like a standard powerviolence record. The first few tracks hit hard, but something feels a bit off. It's as if they’re almost going through the motions, lacking that signature impact that we usually expect. The riffs are still chaotic and punishing, but they don’t quite hit the same way they have in the past. There's something in the tone or perhaps the production that feels a bit flat. Perhaps they experimented with different tunings or recording techniques in the first half, but the result is a bit of a disjointed start.
However, by the time you reach the third track, "Every Bridge Burned," things take a noticeable turn. Suddenly, the energy shifts, and the Nails we know—raw, powerful, and untamed—comes roaring back. From that point forward, the album takes on an entirely new level of intensity, and track 5, "Lacking the Ability to Process Empathy," further cements that they are fully back in their element. The riffs now sound meaner and tighter, and the drums are as frantic and explosive as ever.
The lyrics, as expected, are brutally honest and raw. The themes of betrayal, remorse, and emotional pain hit hard. Some lines are direct and to the point, like "Give me the painkiller," while others are more abstract and reflective, such as "I can't turn it off." These words are delivered with an almost visceral aggression, mirroring the intensity of the music behind them. The vocals are as searing and bitter as the content of the songs themselves.
Musically, the drumming on this record is exceptional. It’s dynamic, shifting between blistering blast beats and more methodical, tight fills that show off the technical skill of the band while maintaining their chaotic intensity. The bass, too, adds a layer of heaviness that can’t be ignored. It's deep, powerful, and works in perfect harmony with the rest of the band, contributing to the thick, dense sound that makes each song feel like it’s about to implode at any moment.
By the end of the album, Nails hits their stride with a relentless barrage of sonic fury. They may have stumbled a bit in the beginning, but once they find their rhythm, the fire is there—stronger and more passionate than ever. This new LP proves that Nails still has the ability to bring the heat, and while the first half may not have the same staying power as the second, they more than make up for it with the unrelenting power they unleash in the latter half of the album. The storm is here, and it’s not going anywhere.
