Lust Witch – Heavy, But Lacking Magic

Some listeners might find Lust Witch captivating, while others may struggle to stay engaged. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter category—this EP feels uninspired, repetitive, and stale.

From start to finish, the song structures are frustratingly similar, making it difficult to stay focused. Even though the band delivers a heavy sound, it feels redundant and predictable. The tracks follow a formula that lacks any real sense of movement or evolution. It’s heavy, sure—but it doesn’t go anywhere.

There are occasional flashes of interesting instrumentation, but nothing that truly grabs attention or sets the band apart. It feels like they're playing it too safe, sticking to familiar patterns instead of experimenting or pushing their sound forward.

The bass might be the strongest part of the EP, as it’s prominent in the mix and at times carries the weight of the sound more than the guitars do. The guitars just chug along without much variety. There are moments of solid riffing, but overall, it’s too one-dimensional to keep things engaging. The drumming is disappointingly lackluster, feeling lazy and uninspired, almost like the drummer is just going through the motions rather than injecting energy into the tracks. There’s no urgency, no dynamic shifts, just a steady, predictable beat. The vocals are heavy and tough, but they don’t showcase any real variation. There’s no sense of build-up, no shifts in intensity—just a constant, unchanging delivery that makes it difficult to stay engaged.

While the production isn’t terrible, the bass is turned up too loud at times, drowning out the rest of the band. The overall mix could use some fine-tuning, as certain elements overpower others, making it feel unbalanced and muddy rather than crushing and powerful.

Lust Witch clearly has the potential to bring something exciting to the heavy music scene, but this EP feels like a missed opportunity. With more dynamic songwriting, tighter drumming, and a more varied vocal approach, they could create something truly crushing and memorable.

For now, this feels like a solid foundation that still needs refining. Hopefully, future releases bring more variety and energy—because right now, the magic is missing.
