Fly Over States is one of the rare bands I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing more than once, and I’m definitely glad to have had that opportunity. Their latest release marks a significant step forward for the band. This new ep is not only tighter and more cohesive, but it also features a sharper production quality that elevates their sound. Whereas their earlier work had them experimenting with that post-hardcore vibe, it feels like they’ve finally found their own voice in this genre. There’s a real sense of ownership over their sound now, blending the energy and rawness of that older style while making it uniquely theirs.

One of the standout improvements is in the song arrangements. Everything feels more deliberate and structured this time around. The riffs, which are lighter and more precise, are undeniably catchy – you’ll find yourself nodding along without even realizing it. The drumming, while punchy and with some solid fills, occasionally gets buried in the mix. It’s not a deal-breaker by any means, but it would have been nice to hear a bit more clarity in some of those moments. The bass, unfortunately, suffers from a similar fate, often getting lost in the background, which is a bit of a letdown, especially since a strong bass line could really help anchor the overall sound.

On a positive note, the vocals are a real highlight here. They’ve definitely matured since their earlier work, sounding more bold and confident. The delivery matches the intensity of the post-hardcore style they’re leaning into, and it’s clear that the vocalists have grown into their roles. While the overall product may not be groundbreaking, it’s a definite improvement for Fly Over States – they’ve clearly taken a step in the right direction.
