A new work-based metalcore band called Bellicose will bring out the modern animal in you with this short and heavy EP called Modern Mammal. Filled with heavy drums, rough and tough riffs, and straight aggressive vocals, fans of heavy music will enjoy it for sure. The most impressive part of this band is the way the band is able to have such a groovy sound from the nice combo or groovy riffs and tight drumming like Ok, the song born to lose. The middle of that song has a nice midtempo beat with some groove riffs, and it sounds dope. The bad is able to inject some interesting guitar playing by utilizing some dissonant riffs, like on bound to the bone. The breakdown in that song has a cool, distinctive feel to it. The lyrics point out how technology and internet cultures are destroying some people and people are not being their true selves, which is an easy thing to relate to. The lyrics seem to add to the frustration of the vocals and give them that edge of anger and aggression needed for this type of music. A few things I would say the band needs to improve on are the bass and some production issues. I didn't really get a sense of the bass on most of these tracks. If I did, it definitely needed to be turned up, like on the opening track, “born to lose." Which takes me to a similar issue, and that's on the last track, “mental wealth.” The band's sound changes on this track, and they just sound weirdly low. The first two tracks had a similar sound, but the last track just dipped in quality and was hard to hear at times. Some minor issues, but still a solid effort from a solid band. If you are a fan of knocked loose and of mice and men, then you’ll definitely enjoy this little EP from Bellicose.
