Thailand’s The Shredder unleashes a fierce and relentless assault on their Bloodforged EP, delivering crushing riffs, thunderous drums, and thick bass that pay homage to the gritty New York hardcore and metalcore scenes while carving out their own heavy identity. Across five tracks, the band showcases impressive technical skill and tight execution, though at times the vocals suffer from being buried in the mix, leaving the instrumental ferocity to carry most of the weight.

The EP opens with “The Shredder (Intro),” a slow, hard-hitting introduction built on deep, chugging riffs that channel the raw aggression of NYHC and bands like Merauder. The drums crash with forceful cymbal work, perfectly complementing the precise, tight riffing. The bass is thick and commanding, anchoring the track’s heavy atmosphere. While the vocals sit a bit too low to fully impact, the band’s tight performance and relentless energy make this a powerful, grinding opener that sets a solid foundation for what’s to come.

“Snitches Get Stitches” lives up to the band’s name with razor-sharp guitars tuned thick and heavy, shredding through dissonant and metallic riffs that add a modern twist to their hardcore sound. The drums punch hard with double kicks that drive the track forward, and the bass adds a thick, heavy backbone. However, the vocals again feel too recessed in the mix, which slightly diminishes their presence despite the song’s ferocity. The band’s playing more than compensates, especially during the breakdown—a slow, brutal, and nasty segment that lands as an absolute ass-beater and a highlight of the EP.

“Loyalty Runs Back” starts with massive riffs that immediately demand attention, propelled by pummeling drums and dynamic cymbals. Double kicks fire relentlessly, while the bass maintains a deep, powerful groove. Yet the vocals are disappointingly distant once again, lost behind the mix despite the strong instrumental clarity. Atmospheric backing vocals add a haunting touch, working well to build tension before the breakdown. The breakdown itself is enhanced by tight double kicks that add groove and keep the heaviness fresh and engaging.

The slower, more deliberate pace of “Caged in Chaos” brings a different energy, recalling the lumbering heaviness of bands like Sunami. The riffs feel dumb heavy and methodical, with drums pounding hard and bass vibrant and weighty. Though the vocals still fail to come through strongly, the band’s ability to build crushing atmosphere with their instrumentation remains evident.

The EP closes with “Last Breath,” where the vocals finally gain a bit more presence in the mix, delivering husky screams that bring to mind Biohazard’s raw intensity. The riffs here display some nice scale work, paired with a dumb heavy bass tone that rumbles ominously beneath the surface. Backing vocals remain somewhat low, hinting at a possible production issue rather than performance. Sharp, fast chugging riffs push the track forward, while a siren and soft vocals from Three Knee Deep at the end set up a heavy, atmospheric finale that lingers long after the last note fades.

Overall, Bloodforged demonstrates The Shredder’s capability to craft intense, tightly executed hardcore with roots in NYHC and modern metalcore, backed by impressive instrumental skill and solid production outside the vocal mix. Addressing the low vocal levels in future releases could further elevate their sound and bring their full brutal force to the forefront. For now, Bloodforged stands as a raw and powerful statement from a band on the rise.
