That Mexican OT - Texas Technician Review

That Mexican OT - Texas Technician Review

Return to Music Reviews 2024

That Mexican OT might need to go back to technician school because this piece of work is not put together that well. The Texas rapper comes out in the first half of this mixtape, sounding okay to decent with some fun production, interesting bars, catchy hooks, and okay features. However, as we progress, I feel we are getting duped and getting the same song over and over. Alot of the songs follow a formula of him adliping lots of uh-huh, a weird scream in the background, him saying his name, going in on his versus, catchy hook, then guest feature and rinsie and repeat. Besides like 2 songs, he flows this formula for the majority of the album, and if this were a shorter effort, it wouldn’t be noticeable, but after 16 tracks, it does get annoying. His vocal performance is another aspect that I can really figure out. He sounds clear and can be heard quite well, but outside “function” and “twisted fingers,"  his vocals feel so vanilla. He sounds so landy and plain, like he doesn't have any spice to his vocals. The beats suffer from sounding too similar and using too many of the same elements on these tracks, like the screams, saxophone, or deep bass. It all feels very recycled. I will say his rhymes and bars are pretty good, and his hooks can be quite catchy. Also, surprisingly, when he sings, he sounds more lively than his rapping. There's a lot bad on here with some good. So I can see why he has made a splash in the music world. Now if he is stating power, thats another question for another review.
