The bridge between heaven and hell is open with this final album from the legends of pop punk, Sum 41. This final album is bringing all the great elements about Sum 41 and packaging them together nicely. The album is 20 tracks long, and you can tell there is an obvious divide between the a and b sides of the album. On the A side (heaven) side of the album, you are getting classic pop punk sum 41. Fast tempo punk drums, quick and charming riffs, and lots of catchy sing-along parts. On the b side (hell), you are getting the more aggressive/mmetal sum 41 with heavy tuned riffs, massive guitar solos, heavy and thick laced bass playing, and some gritty vocals. The band is giving the fans a great album that covers all their classic points of catchy songs, encouraging lyrics, and fun rock anthems. They aren't trying to do some grand new genre send-off of an album. They are sticking to their known formula, and that's okay because it helps deliver a solid album. As much as I enjoy heavy music, I will have to say the heavens if the album has a lot of emotional moments that feel great knowing it's their last album. Like on the songs “I can't wait” and “Radio Silence." The catchy and emotional vocals make the sendoff even more touching. You can really feel that they are singing and playing their hearts out on this. A few hiccups the album back is that it has a large amount of songs, so a few of them feel just okay and not necessarily the greatest thing. However, since it's their final album, you enjoy knowing they are putting in as much as they can before sending things off one last time. During the more metal-infused part of the album, the overuse of guitar solos gets to the point where the songs feel like they have them thrown in for new reasons and through off the flow of the song. Come heaven or hell, its been one interesting journey for pop punk legends Sum 41, and I think this is a nice send-off for young lads.
