The Sanity Slip fanbase was not happy with my review of their ep from 2023, “There is no way to save us," because I thought it said it has a heavy band with no substance. On this new promo, I got to say I'm a bit more impressed with the work being done here. They are still heavy as ever but seemed more refined in their sound and playing. They are still bringing those heavy slammin riffs, nasty and disgusting vocals, and machine gun-popping drums. However, they manage to sound less repetitive on this record, incorporating some guest vocals to help make the songs feel more fleshed out and refreshing. The tighter snare head helps the songs feel a bit more dynamic. Also, the trimmed-down run times make the songs feel more impactful and have the lasting power of being more memorable. Like on the track “Mutilaed," this might be their most diverse and unique song on the promo. Now, say they aren't as repetitive, but they still use some of their tricks over and over. They do a bass drop at the end of every song, and yeah, its heavy can make things feel redundant. And on reduance, the lyrics are not the most poetic when you say your band name multiple times and mention four lokos. The lyrics, as per usual with a slam band, are not the most creative or positive, but they fit what they are trying to do here. Be nasty, disturbing, and have a touch of humor. Not winning any writing awards here, but it fits for this genre. The band has definitely improved on their sound in many aspects but isn't doing anything to push the genre forward. Their sanity hasn't slipped, and neither will yours if you just take this band at face value as a heavy band doing heavy shit.
