Mötley Crüe- Cancelled Review

Mötley Crüe- Cancelled Review

Return to Music Reviews 2024

Using cancelled might not be the best word to use for this new music from legendary metal band Montgomery Crüe because if they keep making music like this, they definitely need to be cancelled. From bloated runtimes, uninspiring playing, mid-production, and horrible covers, there's a lot on here that needs to be thrown out and done all over again if they hope to stick around in the current landscape. The songs drag on longer than they should, with each song running over 4 minutes long, with hardly anything interesting happening in those long run times. The bloated runtimes mostly come from constant repetition of going back into the weak verses and choruses too many times. Then you have the uninspiring original material on “cancelled” and the even more uninteresting cover material onfight for your r rights." From the drums to the vocals and, at times, the riffs, they seem so unenthusiastic in playing their instruments. The drums are feeling very limb and not really packing a punch, and the vocals (when heard) feel like he doesn't really believe the words he is singing and is just going through the motions and this on their own material. On the cover, they seem to sound even more dead and don't want to be there when making the cover. It's an old band covering an old song and just feels wrong and sad. How can they say they want to fight for their right to party, but their gang vocals sound dead as hell? This song is a prime example of how the band is beyond their peak and feels dried up. The bass? I don't even know if it was here or not because it was not mixed well. The production on this is so bad that you can't hear the vocals most of the time or things just sound flat. The one thing on here that does make things intriguing is the guitar playing. At times it has some grit and heavy tuning to it that adds a bit of spice to their formula. However, the guitars can get self-indulgent with their solos. Two guitar solos in one song? The guitars are nice when they dont try to over extend their presence and just stick to making heavy riffs. No one deserves to be cancelled, but if they continue making these subpar songs, I won't be surprised if they do get cancelled.
