Mexican Coke - Mexican Coke Review

Mexican Coke - Mexican Coke Review

With an interesting and exciting name like Mexican Coke, you would think that this EP would have some razzle-dazzle refreshing taste to it. The buzz around this band has been strong for awhile, and I was stoked to check them out. Maybe their live shows don't translate so well to recorded mediums. They are a noisy crust punk band that doesn't really seem to be all that wowing. They have fast and erratic riffs with pummeling drums, thick bass, and erratic vocals. However, it felt like I heard something like this before. With the whole rough recorded production and low recorded vocals to create a sense of rawness to it. The songs were never attention-grabbing outside a few moments of grooviness or some interesting drumming. The songs varied from just okay to good. Nothing horribly bad, but nothing to get hyped for, I feel. I will say the short runtime makes it an easy listen. Maybe it can grow on you after a few listens.
