Lupe Fiasco - Samurai Review

The lyrical samurai himself Lupe fiasco is sneaking up on you to deliver some well sliced and detail execution with this latest album. He is taking things back to a simple time with these chill and laid back 90s like hip hop inspired beats. In an age of rage inducing rap its nice to see thing sho back to a simple formula with less overproduced tracks and have real drum and bass on a hip hop tracks. It feels like a true return to form with these well crafted hip hop beats. From the warm feeling saxophones and soul touching pianos, the musical arrangements on this album are such a breath of fresh air in the current hip hop landscape. Then the man himself is laying down some real good conscious rap with some well written bars and great delivery. Like on the track “palaces”, he delivers the line “we’ve been talented, all along. We think we’re fortresses, made of stone. But were palaces made of flesh and bone” and this bar is so simple but cuts so deep. The lyircs are positive and make you think about whats being said. There is a weight to his words. He is delivering an incredible performance here without any features as well. This is all carried by him and he is delivering the goods with this album. In a time where rap seems like its at its lowest point commercially and in pop culture, its nice to see someone take it back to its roots and show off the potential it can have when you really care about the craft if making good music.
