While the latest EP may be called Purgatorio, I would personally describe it as nothing short of phenomenal. Eighteen Visions, the metalcore pioneers, have once again demonstrated that they still possess the fire and passion that defined them all those years ago. This new release showcases an exceptional level of craftsmanship, making it clear that the band is at the peak of their artistry.

The pacing of the EP is masterful, and the seamless blend of various genres is simply stunning. Eighteen Visions effortlessly shifts between being relentlessly heavy, ambient, and then back to a sharp, aggressive tone, all within the span of a single track. Their ability to transition between different musical atmospheres—from ferocious heaviness to airy, light moments—is a beautiful testament to their versatility and depth.

What truly sets this release apart is the remarkable fusion of metalcore with elements of ‘90s alternative, metal, and grunge. It’s a genre-bending achievement that feels both nostalgic and refreshing. The vocals, in particular, stand out—they sound as if they’ve been building for years, bursting with raw emotion and intensity. The lead vocalist delivers each line with a voracious, sharp energy that grabs your attention and never lets go.

The guitar work is brutal in the best possible way—heavy riffs that smash through your senses and reverberate with crushing force. The bass is more than just a supporting player here; it is a critical, driving force that contributes depth and complexity to the sound. Meanwhile, the drumming is nothing short of phenomenal. The tightness and heaviness, particularly in the snare, are breathtaking and drive the entire rhythm section forward with unrelenting power.

The production on Purgatorio is pristine, crisp, and clear—every instrument is defined without feeling too polished or stiff. It’s a perfect balance of precision and rawness that allows the emotional energy of the music to shine through. You can hear that the lads of Eighteen Visions have poured their heart and soul into this record, and it’s evident in every note. The hard work has certainly paid off, resulting in an EP that is not just a return to form, but a bold step forward.
