Blood$tain 1860 come out of San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal swinging with a kind of raw conviction that feels inseparable from the current wave of Philippine hardcore. There’s an immediacy to Arrogant Conviction that mirrors the scene it comes from—confrontational, unfiltered, and driven by a need to speak plainly even when everything feels unstable. Much like Blinded by Faith, the record is rooted in defiance and unity, favoring blunt emotional force over refinement. That choice gives the album its backbone, but it also exposes its limits. Arrogant Conviction thrives on weight and attitude first, polish second, and while that tradeoff fuels its intensity, it also becomes its most persistent flaw.

Right from the opening moments, the band commits to slow, dissonant riffing and deep, chest-rattling drum patterns. Conceptually, the approach makes sense—it’s oppressive, confrontational, and built to feel physically heavy—but the execution doesn’t always land cleanly. The production is rough around the edges, occasionally tipping into outright jank, and that stiffness bleeds into the performances themselves. Certain drum patterns feel rigid, and some of the more repetitive riff sections struggle to generate momentum on their own. When everything is slightly off, the weight can feel forced rather than crushing.

That said, when Blood$tain 1860 lock into a groove, the entire record snaps into focus. The double kicks tighten up, the bass swells with real presence, and the breakdowns suddenly feel massive instead of mechanical. These moments of cohesion give the album its most convincing punches, injecting forward motion and making the heaviness feel earned. It’s here that the band’s strengths become obvious: they understand how to build tension and release it through sheer mass, even if the path there isn’t always smooth.

Vocally, Arrogant Conviction is most effective when it stays rooted in low, guttural aggression. Those deeper, harsher deliveries carry authority and sit naturally against the dense instrumentation, reinforcing the album’s confrontational tone. Higher screams, on the other hand, tend to sound thinner and less controlled, occasionally cracking in ways that pull attention away from the song itself. Tracks like “Faceless” and “Blinded by Faith” capture both sides of that dynamic—strong atmosphere and weight undercut at times by stiffness or a vocal moment that lands awkwardly. Still, the band’s ability to pivot into groove-heavy passages keeps these tracks moving, even when they’re operating within familiar hardcore frameworks.

Guest features add another layer of variation, though with mixed results. The appearance on “Faceless” brings a genuinely fresh energy that cuts through the familiarity of the riffing, offering a welcome jolt of personality. Other features don’t land as cleanly, feeling slightly out of step with the band’s otherwise serious, no-frills tone and briefly breaking the immersion rather than enhancing it.

The record truly comes alive in its later stretch, where Blood$tain 1860 sound tighter, faster, and more confident. Punkier tempos, frantic riffing, and relentless double-kick patterns raise the intensity, pushing the band out of their earlier stiffness and into something more volatile. These tracks hit with a sense of urgency, capped by breakdowns that finally feel as punishing as the album has been promising all along.

Arrogant Conviction isn’t a genre reinvention, and it doesn’t always escape its own rigidity, but it doesn’t need to. What it offers instead is sincerity—heavy, direct, and unfiltered. When Blood$tain 1860 find their groove, they sound genuinely dangerous, tapping into the same raw energy that’s driving Philippine hardcore forward right now. With sharper execution and cleaner—but still abrasive—production, this level of conviction could hit even harder next time.


Nagmumula ang Blood$tain 1860 sa San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal na may dalang hilaw na paninindigang ramdam na ramdam sa kasalukuyang galaw ng Philippine hardcore. May agarang bagsik ang Arrogant Conviction—isang enerhiyang nakaugat sa mismong eksenang pinanggalingan nito: konfrontasyonal, walang preno, at pinapagana ng kagustuhang magsalita nang tuwiran kahit magulo ang lahat sa paligid. Katulad ng Blinded by Faith, nakasentro ang album sa pagkontra, pagkakaisa, at tapang na ipahayag ang sarili. Mas inuuna nito ang bigat at saloobin kaysa kinis, at bagama’t dito nanggagaling ang lakas ng album, dito rin lumilitaw ang mga limitasyon nito.

Mula pa lang sa unang mga sandali, malinaw na ang direksiyon: mabagal at dissonant na mga riff, at malalalim, dumadagundong na drum patterns na dinisenyong maramdaman sa dibdib. Sa konsepto, epektibo ito—nakakasakal, mapanghamon, at pisikal ang bigat—ngunit hindi laging malinis ang bagsak. Magaspang ang produksyon, minsan borderline sabog, at ramdam ang paninigas sa mismong pagtugtog. May mga bahagi na rigid ang drums, at ang ilang paulit-ulit na riff ay hirap magdala ng momentum. Kapag hindi sabay-sabay ang tama, nagmumukhang pilit ang bigat imbes na tunay na nakakapinsala.

Pero kapag nag-lock in ang Blood$tain 1860, biglang nagkakaroon ng linaw ang lahat. Humihigpit ang double kicks, bumibigat ang presensiya ng bass, at ang mga breakdown ay nagiging tunay na malaki imbes na mekanikal. Dito lumalabas ang tunay na lakas ng banda: alam nila kung paano mag-ipon ng tensyon at bitawan ito sa pamamagitan ng purong bigat. Kahit hindi palaging pulido ang daan papunta roon, ramdam ang intensiyon.

Sa vocals, pinakamalakas ang Arrogant Conviction kapag nananatili ito sa mababa at guttural na delivery. Ang malalalim at mararahas na sigaw ay may awtoridad at swak na swak sa siksik na tunog ng banda. Sa kabilang banda, ang mas matataas na sigaw ay mas manipis at minsan hindi kontrolado, may mga pagkakataong pumipiyok sa maling sandali. Mas lalong bumibigat ang album sa huling bahagi nito, kung saan mas mahigpit, mas mabilis, at mas kumpiyansa ang tunog ng Blood$tain 1860. Mas punk ang mga tempo, mas frantic ang riffing, at walang tigil ang double kicks—lahat ito nagtutulak ng enerhiya pataas. Ang mga breakdown sa bahaging ito ay talagang sumasapak, eksaktong klase ng bugbog na ipinangako ng album mula pa sa simula.

Hindi genre-pusher ang Arrogant Conviction, at hindi rin nito palaging natatakasan ang sariling paninigas. Pero hindi rin naman nito kailangang gawin iyon. Ang iniaalok nito ay katapatan—mabigat, direkta, at walang filter. Kapag nahanap ng Blood$tain 1860 ang kanilang groove, delikado ang tunog nila sa pinakamagandang paraan. Sa mas matalas na execution at mas malinaw—pero nananatiling hilaw—na produksyon, mas lalakas pa ang bagsik ng ganitong klaseng paninindigan sa susunod.
