Angel Last Plague are an underground extreme metal project that blend blackened death metal, metallic hardcore, and dark atmospheric elements into a short but intense listening experience. On The Dead’s Elite, the band focuses on themes of death, insanity, and spiritual collapse while delivering a sound that sits somewhere between modern metalcore, blackened hardcore, and death metal. While the EP occasionally struggles with production issues and some familiar songwriting choices, it also shows flashes of genuine potential, particularly through its atmosphere, breakdowns, and vocal dynamics.

The EP opens with "Sanctified The Angel," a track that slowly builds tension through eerie high-pitched guitar lines and subtle cymbal work. The gradual introduction creates a dark mood before the band launches into a straightforward but effective metallic hardcore assault. The vocals arrive with sharp, piercing screams while the guitars and rhythm section settle into a familiar metalcore structure. The pacing works well, and the slower lead guitar melodies floating above the heavier sections help create a haunting atmosphere. However, the production occasionally lacks the weight needed to make certain moments hit as hard as they should. Some of the drum patterns also feel a little basic, and the closing breakdown becomes slightly chaotic compared to the stronger sections that precede it.

"Nocturnal Effigy" immediately improves upon many of the weaknesses of the opener. The slower riffs feel more hypnotic, and the transitions flow naturally between atmospheric passages and aggressive outbursts. Soft spoken-word sections are buried deep in the mix, making them difficult to fully appreciate, but they contribute to the song's dark atmosphere. When the heavier riffs arrive, the band leans into a familiar metalcore formula, yet the energy and conviction behind the performance prevent it from feeling stale. The breakdown stands out as one of the strongest moments on the EP, supported by dense bass, punchy drums, and demonic-sounding backing vocals that add extra depth to the song's climactic moments.

"Insanity" serves as a brief but effective interlude. Acoustic and electric guitars intertwine over the sound of rainfall, creating a somber and melancholic atmosphere. The song feels isolated and emotionally heavy, acting as a necessary breather between the EP's more aggressive moments. Despite its short runtime, it contributes significantly to the overall mood of the record.

The closing track, "Sentinel Blessed," is arguably the EP's strongest song. The transition from the interlude is smooth, and the band immediately launches into faster, more aggressive territory. The contrast between the vocalist's emotional fry screams and the deeper backing growls works particularly well, creating a layered vocal performance that feels dynamic and intense. The mid-song breakdown hits especially hard, combining groove and heaviness effectively, and the closing breakdown ends the EP on an appropriately crushing note.

What ultimately holds The Dead’s Elite back from reaching a higher score is consistency. The band clearly understands how to write effective breakdowns and atmospheric passages, but the production sometimes feels too thin, reducing the impact of moments that should feel devastating. Certain riffs and drum patterns also rely heavily on familiar metalcore conventions without adding enough unique personality.

Still, there is plenty to enjoy here. Angel Last Plague show a strong grasp of atmosphere, pacing, and dynamic songwriting. The blend of blackened aggression, death metal influence, and metallic hardcore energy creates a solid foundation that could become something far more impressive as the band continues to develop. While The Dead’s Elite may not fully separate itself from the crowded extreme metal landscape yet, it offers enough darkness, groove, and intensity to make Angel Last Plague a project worth watching.
