We Came As Romans - All Is Beautiful...Because We're Doomed Review

We Came As Romans’ latest album, All Is Beautiful Because We’re Doomed, marks a bold evolution in their sound, venturing into heavier, more textured metalcore while retaining their signature sense of melody and atmospheric tension. From the very first track, All Is Beautiful…, the band sets an immersive stage with slow-building white noise, faint synths, and a subtle techno-like beat, creating a sense of unease before erupting into massive breakdowns. Crushing riffs, splashing drums, and deep, resonant bass immediately establish a cinematic yet punishing tone, signaling that this album is uncompromising in its intensity.

Tracks such as Bad Luck and Lake of Fire highlight the band’s heavier, more aggressive approach. Glitchy, repeating female vocals, cyberpunk-inspired synth textures, and deep, chugging riffs give the songs a futuristic yet grounded feel. The contrast between clean and screamed vocals creates compelling dynamics, while backing harmonies and catchy choruses add a polished, modern edge. There is noticeable weight to the instrumentation throughout, from the thick basslines of One by One to the punishing double-kick patterns in No Rest for the Dreamer, showing the band embracing a heavier, more confident sound than on previous releases.

The album also experiments with texture and atmosphere. Red Smoke and Where Did You Go? mix dark synth layers with memorable, chug-heavy riffs, producing moments that are both dissonant and catchy. Culture Wound alternates between soft, airy vocals and explosive chugs, demonstrating the band’s skill at blending melodic accessibility with crushing heaviness. Even slower, more processed tracks like Circling a Dying Sun and Knowing Pain employ subtle synth textures and layered atmospheres to expand the sonic palette, though some of these passages feel less forceful compared to the album’s most intense moments.

Later tracks, including So Lost (Burning Flowers) and the closing title track Because We’re Doomed, lean fully into weighty, industrial-tinged heaviness. Sharp, dissonant riffs, pounding drums, and intense vocal delivery evoke a heavier era reminiscent of Bring Me The Horizon while retaining We Came As Romans’ modern melodic sensibility. Synth layers underpin the dense riffs and breakdowns, giving the album a unique, immersive character. The penultimate and final tracks tie together earlier themes, giving the record a sense of cohesion and purpose, framing it as a deliberate emotional arc rather than a collection of singles.

Overall, All Is Beautiful Because We’re Doomed finds We Came As Romans at their most confident and heavy-to-date. The album merges crushing metalcore riffs with cinematic synth textures, layered vocal dynamics, and dynamic arrangements. While not every experimental moment lands perfectly, the record consistently demonstrates the band’s growth, balancing aggression with melody and atmosphere. Following the tragic passing of vocalist Kyle Pavone in 2018, this album represents the culmination of the band’s evolution toward a darker, heavier, and more industrial-infused sound. For fans of modern metalcore that combines emotional intensity, cinematic production, and crushing heaviness, this album is a definitive statement and a powerful addition to the band’s discography.
