Speed - All My Angels Review

Sydney hardcore band Speed continue to forge their own path with All My Angels, an EP that hits hard both sonically and emotionally. This isn’t just pit fuel—it’s raw, reflective, and shaped profoundly by loss. Experimentation takes center stage here, with groove, space, and atmosphere standing alongside aggression. The production may not be flawless, but the feeling is undeniable, giving the release real weight.

The EP opens with “Ain’t My Game,” immediately establishing its tone with deep, slapping drums and a groovy undercurrent that pulls the listener in. The bass is thick and chunky, sitting low and heavy in the mix, while the riffs sweep smoothly across the soundscape. Vocally, the gantry-style, saliva-heavy yell adds a raw edge. The production carries a hollow, slightly washed-out quality, but it only reinforces the sense that Speed are pushing their sound into new territory. The breakdown is slow and groovy—restrained, yet unexpectedly impactful.

Energy spikes sharply on “Peace,” which arrives fast and relentless. Deep, driving drums push the track forward, while aggressive riffs slice through the mix. A standout angel-choir section lends the song a nearly spiritual weight before the riffs return atop a slower drum pattern. There’s a profound sadness embedded in the track, clearly written for a fallen friend, and it lands with an emotional force that pure aggression could never achieve alone.

The EP closes with the title track, “All My Angels,” where Speed fully embrace reflection. The riffs remain heavy but feel washed out, giving the atmosphere room to breathe. Drums are tight and dynamic, while echoed vocals toward the back end create a haunting effect. Backing vocals repeating “all my angels” feel massive and crushing, and the standout vocal moments convey real pain. Here, Speed slow the pace intentionally, sitting with the emotion rather than racing past it, creating a profound sense of release by the end.

All My Angels shows Speed evolving without losing their core intensity. It’s groovy, heavy, emotional, and imperfect in a way that feels deeply honest. On vibes alone, it’s an easy 8/10, carrying even more weight through its dedication and meaning. Rest in peace, Aje—this EP is for him.
