If you’re looking for a funky band with a harder edge—think Red Hot Chili Peppers meets hardcore—look no further than Slope. This band brings the funk into hardcore in a way that’s playful, energetic, and unapologetically fun. Their vocals are bright, layered, and crisp, alternating between sing-song hooks, gang-style chants, and, toward the end of the album, traditional hardcore unclean vocals executed with surprising skill.
The riffs are a highlight, blending groovy, psychedelic-inspired funk with hard-hitting, stripped-down hardcore moments. The technical riffs show off their skill, while the dirtier, simpler riffs hit with a satisfying punch. The drums add a fresh twist to the mix, with inventive snare work and well-placed cymbals that feel both tasteful and energetic.
The bass could be more prominent for a funk-forward band, but when it does come forward, it adds depth and weight that complements the rest of the instrumentation. Production-wise, the album is mixed cleanly, giving each instrument room to shine and making the overall sound stellar.
While a few songs occasionally feel a bit bland, the majority of the album showcases a unique, fresh approach to blending funk and hardcore. Slope manages to balance groove, aggression, and creativity, making this a record that’s fun to listen to from start to finish.
