Scapre from Texas will scratch that hard-hitting pit feeling you have had in the back of your mind with their churchy riffs, popping drums, mild but groovy bass, and solid, unclean vocals. This is a prime example of a band whose start will be rough with this demo but, in time, will be able to smooth out their shortcomings in future releases. The potential for the band to do better is there, and I think they are capable of reaching those heights. The songs they made here are solid with how the guitarist creates a nice churchy and, at times, heavy atmosphere with their riffs. The drummer has a tight snare that really helps them pop and has dynamic drum patterns with the other drumheads and cymbals. The bass playing is good for what they are creating here. Its mild feel really keeps the band in balance and doesn't make them sound too heavy—just that right amount of heaviness and groove from the bass. The vocals are quite consistent on this demon and will definitely get better in time. The biggest critique I can have about this band and demo is the production. It sounds at times either too loud or too low in some parts. Like on the last song, “Pushing Daises,” the guitars are dope but are turned up a bit too loud, and so it drowns out the vocals. And then on the “act of acceptance,” the vocals are too low, and so it's hard to hear them. However, I can give some leeway because this is just a demo, and most demos are never the best material. Lyrically, the songs talk about blame, punishment, remorse, and pin and are well written. They mix things up by being direct with their feelings or my abstract with their writing. Another issue that I think will get fixed in time is that at times the band feels a bit clunky and a bit too erratic. Like on the opening song “Tourniquet,” the first part of the song has a very clunky feel that feels a bit sloppy. It gives the band a unique feel, but it can be a bit too incoherent. This is simply the start for this band, and I can see a promising career; they just need to gain some more experience to become harder and better.
