Hold My Own - Da Trifecta EP Review

Return to Music Reviews 2024

Once again, Hold My Own proves they are masters of their craft, staying true to hardcore and delivering exactly what fans expect—raw, unfiltered aggression with a powerful sense of authenticity. They have a clear vision of what they want to achieve on record, and they execute it with precision every time.

From start to finish, this EP is packed with everything that makes hardcore so compelling. The riffs are solid and tightly tuned, never overly flashy but always effective. The drumming is straightforward, keeping the energy high without unnecessary complexity. The bass cuts deep, hitting you right in the chest, while the vocals carry just the right amount of grit and attitude to get you amped for the inevitable dogpile in the pit.

This time around, Hold My Own takes things up a notch by enlisting the help of some heavy hitters in the hardcore scene—Knuckledust, Disgrace, and Speed. These guest features add an extra layer of intensity and fresh energy to the tracks, seamlessly blending with the band's no-nonsense approach to hardcore. Each vocalist complements the music perfectly, making for a well-rounded and dynamic listening experience.

The EP is short but impactful, structured in a way that keeps the momentum going. The opening track kicks things off with strong riffs and a crushing breakdown. The middle track is fast-paced and relentless, featuring well-tuned bass that keeps the adrenaline pumping. The closing song ties everything together with an anthemic quality that makes you want to scream along at the top of your lungs.

Hold My Own isn’t here to reinvent the wheel or push hardcore into uncharted territory—they don’t need to. They know their strengths, they play to them well, and they deliver consistency with every release. They’re not trying to be the next big thing; they’re simply holding their own, and they do it damn well.
