Dark superstition is an understatement of how dark and heavy this new album is from Gatecreeper. The blend of hardcore style playing with death metal really helped breathe refreshing life into these genres. They take hardcore parts like certain drum patterns and guitar riffs and mix them in with the dark sounds of death metal to make some impressive music here. The drumming is really impressive because he has some really good chops at doing some nice double kicks and heavy pounding on the kit. He is able to blend the genres of hardcore and death metal and make it all work. Then the guitars made guitar solos sound cool again with their short and unexpected appearance over cool drum parts. The tuning on the guitars is so heavy and interesting that you can't help but headbang when the songs are ripping away. The bass is felt and heard on every track and never feels left out. Then you got the massive vocals that helped bring the dark and heavy lyrics to life. It's funny how much he sounds like a local Japanese legend, Koba, from Loyalty to the Grave. Very impressive vocals. The production here is good and, for the most part, balances all the members well. They are not pushing into any new territories here, but really fine-tuning what they know and making it better.
