"Embrace the Reputation" is exactly what the boys in Embrace the Misery are aiming for on their debut EP, and they certainly lean into their sound with full force. Expect a wall of distortion, featuring gritty, chug-heavy guitars, murky basslines, hollow-sounding drums, and vocals that feel submerged beneath the mix. This release delivers on aggression, but not without some noticeable areas for growth.

One of the first things that stands out is the production—or rather, how muffled and dialed-down it feels. While rawness can be a stylistic choice in heavy music, at times, the mixing seems to work against them rather than for them. The vocals, in particular, get lost in the instrumentation, making it difficult to fully engage with the energy the band is trying to put forward.

Another challenge is the track lengths. Some songs drag on longer than they need to, causing the pacing to stumble instead of surge forward. The breakdowns—a staple in their style—can sometimes feel like a well-earned climax, but other times, they seem tacked on simply for heaviness’ sake. This inconsistency makes the listening experience feel uneven, with some moments hitting hard while others struggle to leave a lasting impact.

A more refined approach to song structure and production could help Embrace the Misery better showcase their strengths. Right now, many of the tracks bleed together, making it difficult to distinguish one from the next. However, despite its flaws, this EP shows clear potential. The band has a foundation of intensity and atmosphere, and with a sharper focus on dynamics, mixing, and pacing, they could carve out a stronger, more distinct identity within the scene.

This is a decent first outing, and if Embrace the Misery can tighten up their sound, they might just live up to the reputation they’re aiming for.

Prepárate para una pared de distorsión, con guitarras pesadas y entrecortadas, líneas de bajo crudas, baterías huecas y voces que parecen sumergidas en la mezcla. Este lanzamiento cumple con la agresión, pero no sin algunas áreas evidentes de mejora.

Uno de los primeros aspectos que destaca es la producción, o mejor dicho, lo apagada y opaca que suena. Si bien la crudeza puede ser una elección estilística en la música pesada, en este caso, la mezcla parece jugar en su contra en lugar de beneficiarlos. Las voces, en particular, se pierden entre los instrumentos, dificultando la conexión con la energía que la banda intenta transmitir.

Otro desafío es la duración de las canciones. Algunos temas se extienden más de lo necesario, haciendo que el ritmo tropiece en lugar de avanzar con fuerza. Los breakdowns, un elemento clave en su estilo, en ocasiones se sienten como un clímax bien logrado, pero en otros momentos parecen insertados únicamente para añadir peso. Esta falta de consistencia hace que la experiencia de escucha sea irregular, con algunos momentos que impactan y otros que no logran dejar una impresión duradera.

Un enfoque más refinado en la estructura de las canciones y la producción podría ayudar a Embrace the Misery a destacar sus fortalezas. Actualmente, muchos de los temas se mezclan entre sí, lo que dificulta distinguir uno del otro. Sin embargo, a pesar de sus fallos, este EP muestra un claro potencial.
